Thurmond is a natural AAD destination because the atmosphere comes from the place itself. Visitors do not need a paranormal claim to understand why this almost-empty railroad town feels different after the crowds disappear.
Public access
How you can visit
New River Gorge National Park and Preserve is open year-round. The Thurmond Depot Visitor Center is seasonal, with fall weekend hours through late October 2026. The town also has a self-guided walking tour.
