About the place

Why visit.

The Exhibition Coal Mine is not being included because AAD needs to label everything haunted. It belongs because it gives visitors a legal, immersive look at the history that shaped southern West Virginia—and it is naturally suited to “after dark” and Halloween-season itineraries.

Public access

How you can visit

The City of Beckley lists the complex as open April 1 through November 1 from 10 AM–5 PM daily. Walk-ins are welcome; advance tickets are not required for ordinary visitors.

On the ground

What you'll find

A roughly 35-minute underground mine ride, restored coal-camp buildings, the Youth Museum, and interpretation from veteran miners.
